Autoestima: Aprecio o consideración que uno tiene de sí mismo
Hace poco leía una frase que decía algo así “Hagamos que la infancia de nuestros niños no sea algo que tengan que olvidar”. Y me dio bastante que pensar.
Personalmente no recuerdo haber tenido una infancia feliz, tampoco infeliz, pero si recuerdo cosas más duras que bonitas.
Pero lo que no recuerdo es cómo mis padres hicieron para trasladarme los valores que ahora son los pilares en mi vida.
Quizás nunca los decían verbalmente pero con su comportamiento yo ya estaba aprendiendo determinadas cosas.
Nunca me dijeron: “hija hay que tener un buen corazón”, pero lo tengo. O no me dijeron, “hay que ayudar a los demás sin esperar a cambio”, y ayudo…
Lo que quiero entender con todo esto es que nuestros hijos no siempre obedecen a lo que decimos, sino a lo que ven. Lo típico de oír a tu hijo gritar y aparecer poseída por algún demonio y gritarle que no grite más, pues así no :(.
Una de las cosas más importantes que se forma durante la infancia es la autoestima. Que no es decirle a tu hijo que bien lo hace todo. Es mucho más sencillo, pero requiere un esfuerzo por nuestra parte de ir soltándoles la mano para que caminen a ratitos solos…
El Psicólogo americano Erik Erikson creía que es esencial que los padres dieran la oportunidad a sus hijos para buscar el sentido de lo que están haciendo, y que eso fuese más fuerte que los sentimientos de vergüenza o de duda. Acertadamente decía “Entonces y solo entonces, los niños tendrán la confianza suficiente para iniciar y para dar forma a sus propias ideas y planes”
Animémosles a que hagan cosas solos, que se equivoquen, pero que las hagan ellos solos, que se frustren y se enfaden…pero poco a poco, el día que lo hagan bien habrán ganado un trocito más de esa maravillosa autoestima.
